A Number of Foreign Occupation Soldiers Killed in Southern Afghanistan September 16, 2007

A Taliban spokesman has said two tanks belonging to foreign military forces have been destroyed in Afghanistan’s Qandahar province, with all on board killed. A Taliban spokesman, Qari Yousef Ahmadi, has told IRIB external service Pashtoun Radio that Taliban fighters destroyed two tanks on Sunday belonging to foreign occupation forces in Afghanistan. According to Qari Yousef Ahmadi, Taliban fighters used remote-controlled bombs to destroy the tanks in the “Nakou Kheil” district, in the town of “Sangsaar”, in the province of Qandahar. The Taliban spokesman said all on board the two tanks were killed.

In further comments Ahmadi said in an ambush operation on Saturday night, Taliban fighters killed one Afghan government soldier, and took captive five more, blowing up a vehicle belonging to the Afghan Army. Ahmadi said the ambush occurred in the town of “Gazreh”, in the western province of “Harat”.

Elsewhere in his remarks, the Taliban spokesman said militants from his group attacked an Afghan military convoy on Saturday night, killing eight Afghan soldiers and destroying their military vehicle. Ahmadi said the attack took place in the town of “Naad Ali”, in the southern Afghan province of Helmand.

Meanwhile, another Taliban spokesman, Zabihullah Mojahed, announced that Taliban fighters attacked and overran an Afghan military checkpoint at “Zaw”, near the town of Zormut, in the province of Paktia. The spokesman said a number of Afghan police officers were killed in this attack, and a number of others, along with their weapons and ammunition, were captured by Taliban fighters.

In further comments, Mojahed said Taliban fighters took part in clashes with foreign military forces in three districts of the town of Jalriz, in Meidan Wardak province, south west of Kabul, the Afghan capital.

According to Mojahed, Taliban militants destroyed three tanks belonging to foreign military forces in the “Khajed Sahib” and “Molla Kheil” districts of Jalriz, killing all on board the vehicles.

The Taliban spokesman said fighters from his group were involved in skirmishes with foreign military forces in the “Mumuki” district of Jalriz, but he had no information about possible casualties.
